El Sábado 13 de agosto se inaugurará la Copa Internacional de Fútbol Australiano 2011 (IC2011). Presentamos a los protagonistas de este “Mundial” (en varones no juega Australia) en donde el planeta se da cita.

Latinoamérica, la única parte sin representantes, seguramente será de la partida en 2014, donde, es una idea de Argentina, presentarse como LATINOAMERICA XVIII.

En Damas, los países participantes son (por orden de preclasificación):

Papúa Nueva Guinea, Australia, Canadá, Irlanda y EEUU.

En la rama masculina, los favoritos son (en orden):

Papúa Nueva Guinea, Nueva Zelanda, Sudáfrica, Irlanda, Naurú, Canadá, EEUU, Japón, Gran Bretaña, Dinamarca, Suecia, Tonga, Equipo de la Paz, Fiji, Timor del Este, China, India y Francia.

Aguilas-Santiago Saints, este año repetiremos el match

Con la renovación de autoridades y la expansión del grupo de trabajo, AAFAU comenzó una nueva etapa, donde buscará la promoción y el desarrollo del Fútbol Australiano en Argentina con más herramientas que en épocas pasadas. Y el primer contacto con Gary Savage derivó en poner fecha al próximo compromiso internacional: 26 de Noviembre frente a Santiago Saints AFC, con detalles a confirmar. También, en noviembre, la realización de la primer edición del 9′s Nacional, con invitados de otros países. El Campeonato Panamericano será el objetivo para 2012 y estrecharemos lazos con Santiago Saints, Brazil Carnaval y los equipos de la parte Norte de América.

Las Aguilas Negras (Alemania) viajaron a Paris para enfrentar a los Gallos Franceses, en el 1º encuentro de 18 jugadores por equipo para el team francés. Los locales dieron dura batalla, pero las Aguilas Negras fueron superiores.

Para los franceses fue una gran práctica con vistas a la International Cup 2011, donde se verá reforzado con 6 jugadores que actualmente juegan en Australia y 2 más en Canadá.

Para las Aguilas Negras, se viene un tradicional match de 9-a-side frente a República Checa a jugarse en itteleschenbach el 30 de Julio.
Este fin de semana se verá el clásico alemnán, Berlin Crocs vs. Rheinland Lions in Berlin.

Ajustada victoria de los Convicts en Argentina

El combinado argentino de Fútbol Australiano no pudo ganar. Enfrentó a los Australian Convicts, que se encuentran de gira por Sudamérica. Jugando un footy adaptado (se utilizaron las metas de fútbol) el match culminó 4.0 (24) a 3.0 (18) para los australianos. Partido áspero, bien disputado, también contó con una clínica de reglas y habilidades por parte de los visitantes.  Diego Silsirado (Argentina) fue elegido el mejor jugador del partido. Martin Parsons y Joaquín Culla jugaron su segundo partido con la camiseta nacional. Felicitaciones a nuestro equipo/combinado que lució caras nuevas. La próxima presentación de Argentina será en Noviembre de 2011 en la 2ª edición de la Copa Andes.

La Liga de Flores será la sede del match

El partido de la Selección Argentina de Fútbol Australiano y “The Convicts” (Australia) se disputará en la Cancha Central de la Liga de Fútbol de Flores (Av. Castañares y Av. Asturias) de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

El cronograma incluye los himnos nacionales de ambos países (10.15 hs.) y el comienzo del match está previsto para las  10.30 hs.

Al finalizar el partido se realizará el tradicional “Tercer Tiempo” en el Club Claridad de Ciudadela, Provincia de Buenos Aires, donde se presentarán los premios del evento.

Martin Parsons será el capitán argentino, que contará con Cristhian Armendariz, Joaquín Culla y Jonathan Castillo como principales jugadores, más varios debuts importantes. También estará presente Darian Américo, un joven valor surgido de Olavarría, quien se destacó durante la presentación del Footy en dicha ciudad y fue convocado.

Será un gran momento de Fútbol Australiano y camaradería. La entrada es libre y gratuita

En el marco del IV Congreso Argentino de Deportes Alternativos (Olavarría, Provincia de Buenos Aires) se presentó el Fútbol Australiano. Con una clínica que contó con más de 200 asistentes, se jugaron varios matches femeninos y masculinos y dos partidos centrales con los mejores exponentes. El MVP del encuentro masculino, Darian Américo (Olavarría, Buenos Aires), fue convocado para entrenar con el Seleccionado Nacional que a partir de Julio 2011, iniciará su preparación con vistas a los futuros compromisos en la 2º mitad del próximo año. Fue sorprendente ver a las damas en acción, no aflojaron y mantuvieron un gran ritmo demostrando a las claras que el Fútbol Australiano es un gran deporte dotado de emoción, entre otras virtudes.

Nota escrita por Dan Silkstone (www.theage.com.au) – Two of Argentina’s brightest young sporting talents are bound for Australia and the Australian game after the first AFL draft camp held in Buenos Aires unearthed surprising results. Cristopher Daniele, a Boca Juniors youth team soccer player – dubbed locally ”the million-dollar babe” – will be brought to Sydney in July by agent Peter Jess, the man behind the Argentine camps. Daniele is already considering a contract offer from Spanish giant Real Zaragoza after impressing the Primera Liga club during a recent trial, Jess said. The other is 18-year-old rugby player Lucas De Vincenzi – a youngster regarded as a possible future rugby international who is playing for the Buenos Aires representative team. Both teenagers will play for the world team that will participate in the under-16 national carnival held at the AFL’s Blacktown facility. If they impress with their performances they are eligible to be rookie-listed by West Coast, which has contributed to the scheme and will have first option on the players.
Daniele has recently made his living as pre-match entertainment at Boca first team matches – impressing crowds of 80,000 with his ball-juggling skills. The 17-year-old is regarded as likely to take up the Zaragoza offer after returning from Australia and is considered a longshot to adopt AFL football as his primary sport. But Daniele – an attacking midfield prodigy – was sufficiently fascinated by the concept of Australian rules to attend last weekend’s tryouts and accept the offer of a free trip to Australia to compete in the carnival. We threw him a footy, he’d never seen one before and he started juggling it, up and down his neck, resting it on his head, he was very impressive,” Jess said. ”He has amazing skills, to get him to come out to Australia is huge.”
Jess said the interest shown by the youngster would mean a massive credibility boost for the sport in Argentina, which will be helpful when Jess and his team – former Richmond football manager Greg Miller and AIS coach and former Bomber Rob Foster-Knight – return to host another draft camp in November. De Vincenzi is regarded as more likely to take his opportunity at Australian football seriously. The draft camp testing showed the 18-year-old had elite level speed, strength and endurance and Jess said he had watched tapes of Australian football, loved the game and was excited to begin learning it. Australian expatriate and keen footballer Jonathan Barlow has volunteered to tutor both young men in the game’s skills in coming weeks so that they are ready to play when they arrive for the carnival.
Jess said he had been impressed by the enthusiasm for the game and his draft camps in the Argentine capital. National newspaper La Nacion devoted a major spread to the day-long tryout. The player agent will meet with AFL officials tomorrow urging them to soon schedule a pre-season NAB Cup match in Buenos Aires. Jess also held talks with several major multi-sport clubs in the city while there and said interest was high in running an Auskick program in the city.

Santiago Saints y Brazil Carnaval, en la foto final

Santiago Saints lift the inaugural Copa Cabana in Rio de Janeiro – Contributed by: Aaron Richard (LINK TO WFN) / A beautiful sunny day on Saturday 20th June in Rio de Janeiro, with a backdrop of Sugar Loaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer and a few curious local onlookers, saw the first ever Australian football match in Brazil.
Up against the Santiago Saints from Chile was the region’s newest team, the Brazil Carnaval. At stake was the inaugural Copa Cabana with the winner entitled to claim South American supremacy.
In the first 5 minutes the Carnaval exploded out of the blocks and had 3 goals on the board before the Saints knew what was happening, and for a moment it looked like an upset was well and truly on the cards. But the well-drilled Chileans slowly pulled themselves back into the game and went into the quarter time break with a 7 point. With the breeze at their backs in the second quarter the Carnaval hoped to capitalize, but the Chileans’ fitness and pinpoint ball use saw them extend the lead to 21 points at the main break.
The 3rd quarter was a great contest and even though the 26ºC conditions were taking their toll, the skills and tackling were making for a great contest. Late goals to Santiago saw them a comfortable 33 points up at the last change.
The Carnaval came out firing with the breeze and gave themselves a sniff of victory with some great long goals, but the Saints steadied and held on for a well-deserved 24 point win. Best for the Saints was Sam Gearing who provided tremendous run from the back and kicked 3 goals, and for the Carnaval Travers McNaught who was inspirational with his drive in the centre and kicked 4 goals.
A fantastic game and coaches Pablo Mejias (Santiago) and Greg Wallis (Brazil) can be very proud of their players, who celebrated well into the night in Rio!

The next international action in South America is a planned 3-way tournament in Buenos Aires, between the Saints, the Carnaval, and Argentina’s representative squad Las Aguilas.

En las instalaciones de ISEFI (agradecemos a sus autoridades), la AAFAU (Asoc. Arg. de Fútbol Australiano) organizó una Clínica del deporte para estudiantes. La excluyente figura presente fue Graeme Pratt (Australia), oficial de desarrollo de la AFL Victoria, quien nos brindó toda su sabiduría y sus conocimientos. Nos dejaron bibliografía y material didáctico en abundancia, lo que demuestra el creciente interés de AFL en nuestro país. AFL Argentina es un hecho, ya comenzaron las inscripciones y AFL Australia aceptó la creación del primer bastión en Latinoamérica.
